EIS Employee Continued Education (ECE) Reimbursement Program OVERVIEW: Due to the dynamic nature of information technology, the need arises to continuously develop our skills so that we may fulfill our personal and corporate goals and compete successfully in an extremely progressive market place. To that end, EIS encourages and financially supports those employees who endeavor to further their formal technical education. We also encourage those employees who have taken advantage of this policy to bring their newly found knowledge back to EIS to be shared with the group - either formally or informally.
ELIGIBILITY: GUIDELINES: I) What kind of courses and how many are reimbursable? Courses of a technical nature for which an individual may receive college credits are reimbursable as long as they are: 1). Industry related or are part of a technical curriculum AND 2). Approved by a supervisor. An employee will not be reimbursed until the course has been completed with a passing grade. A passing grade is defined to be either an "A" or "B" or some other equivalent on a non-standard grading scale. II) How much time off from work is allowed? It is expected that an employee will continue to work 40+ hours per week while participating in continued education courses. Exceptions to this rule will be resolved on an individual basis between an employee and their supervisor.
III) How many classes are covered? Only one concurrent course will be reimbursed each semester or quarter. It is not realistic to assume an employee can successfully complete a more demanding workload while working full time. Courses which are taken as part of a curriculum towards a higher collegiate degree are covered if, as stated above, the curriculum and degree have been approved. There is no time limit imposed on an individual to complete his or her degree, but a schedule to completion should be provided by the employee to their supervisor. IV) What outside costs are covered? The expense for books/required course materials will be reimbursed. However, reimbursement will only take place after the employee achieves a passing grade as defined above. The expense for schools supplies such as: pencils, pens and paper is not covered. The expense for other outside costs such as: finance or service fees, are not covered. PARTICIPATION: 1) To participate in the ECE reimbursement program, an employee must first submit in writing (email or hardcopy) the name of the institution, the course description and the break down of all employee expenses that are to be reimbursed by EIS. 2) This information will be used to complete an ECE Participation form which must be signed by both the employee and approving manager prior to commencing the course or courses in question. 3) Once approved, the employee may enroll in the course(s) and will then submit some copies of the receipts for all approved expenses. 4) Upon completion of the course, the employee will submit the official document containing their course completion status/grade. 5) Assuming the employee received a passing grade and that they remain actively employed by EIS, their next paycheck will include compensation for the entire approved amount along with their normal salary. Per IRS requirements, this payment is subject to standard withholding taxes. |
